Jageshwar Dham

People call it Jageshwar Mandir or Jageshwar Valley, in this place 124 temples are in a group in which Jageshwar is main and other Temples are Mahamrityunjaya Temple, Kedarnath temple and Mata Mandir. It is believed that in Jageshwar Shiva lived in Jagrat Avastha, according to scriptures this is the birthplace of Kartikey, first son of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati, it is also believed that if someone comes here and pyar so it complets very soon. Jageshwar is about 35 kilometers from the main Almora market and these temples were built between 7th to 12th Century in Himalayan range Uttarakhand. Jageshwar has two temples one is Vridh Jageshwar which is about 15 km far from man Jageshwar temple. If we see in this valley so near 200 temples were built by cut stone, many of them are small and some are big.

With the great example of architecture on stone most of the temples are dedicated to lord shiva, Jageshwar is a Hindu Pilgrimage and a small town and a best center of Shiva’s tradition, this is protected by Indian law and well managed by the Archaeological

department of India. It includes Dandeshwar Temple, Chandi-ka-Temple, Jageshwar Temple, Kuber Temple, Mrityunjaya Temple, Nanda Devi or Nau Durga, Nava-grah temple, a Pyramidal shrine, and Surya Temple. The site celebrates the Jageshwar Monsoon Festival during the Hindu calendar month of Shravan (overlaps with July–August) and the annual Maha Shivratri Mela (Shivratri festival), which takes place in early spring. Jageshwar Dham is on the south of the road, across which is an eponymous village at an altitude of 1,870 m, in the Jata Ganga river valley near Deodar forest (Cedrus deodara). Road cuts to Jageshwar dham from the Almora- Pithoragarh highway. Jageshwar is about 93 km from Baijnath temple and about 100 km from nainital and about 100 km from Pithoragarh. During Shivratri Bakth comes here to offer Gangajal to Lord Shiva and in this time it becomes overcrowded.

 Jhankar Saim Temple is located near south of Jageshwar Dham.This temple is dedicated to Lord Jhankar Saim who killed the daemons and let the Tapasya of Lord Shiva be unhindered.
